The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner- Stephenie Meyer
Okay. So you had to know I'd read this one as soon as I could. This is Stephenie Meyer's novella based on the character of Bree in Eclipse.
In Eclipse, we don't see much of Bree. She is one of the newborn vampires in Victoria's army that comes to find Bella. She is fascinating to Bella because Bella is thinking of herself as a potential newborn vampire. We know from Eclipse that her life ends quickly and tragically upon the arrival of the Volturi.
In The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, Meyer explores Bree's character. We learn a little of her life before becoming a vampire, and we also learn more about the army that Victoria- through Riley- was forming to go and find Bella. Bree (and two other of the army vampires) are compelling characters. We know the story will not end well for them because we know how the battle turns out in Eclipse, but it is definitely intriguing to read this short slice of their lives.
I thoroughly enjoyed this short book. Even in my busy life, I read it in less than a day. It is a very easy read. I really enjoy Meyer's character development. One main reason the whole Twilight series was so compelling to me is because Meyer has the ability to really make characters come alive. So, I thought it was very interesting that she could take Bree- a really minor though interesting character- and develop a whole novella around a very short span of time in her life.
This one is definitely a thumbs up. It feeds the Twilight addiction and keeps me waiting for Eclipse to come out at the end of the month!
