The American Patriot's Almanac
As a homeschooler, I've enjoyed several of William J. Bennett's educational resources. I was happy to review this one from BookSneeze.
The American Patriot's Almanac is a beautiful book with a short daily reading from American history to take the reader through the year. Each day's reading has a short excerpt that tells about a person or happening in American history that is relevant to that date. It also has a timeline at the bottom of each day's reading that lists some famous events in American history that happened on that date in different years. At the end of each month are additional readings that include famous American songs, poetry, and speeches.
I love this book as a teacher. I think it is so important that we all- our children especially- be aware of these moments in our country's history, and I love the way of presenting this history in a daily reading format. I think the readings are short enough and easy enough to understand that all of my children (from 5-11) will enjoy the readings, and I will too!
I plan on using this as a homeschool resource and start on January 1st reading one reading a day. I think the readings are appropriate for this use or just for anyone who wants to be more literate about our country's history.
This one is definitely a good read and a great resource!
