Girl Talk With God- Susie Shellenberger
My 11 year old daughter has been a subscriber to Susie magazine- formerly Brio magazine published by Focus on the Family- for about six months now. So I was excited to review Girl Talk With God by the editor of Susie magazine.
The book has chapters covering various issues including salvation, divorce, eating disorders, cutting, and sex. It is written as a girl's conversations with God. Shellenberger uses a good bit of Scripture as she relates God's part of the conversation on each issue
I am always looking for books to share with my daughter as she is nearing her teen years. I think books are a good way to bring up conversations between the two of us. I really like Susie magazine because it does this, and this book by Shellenberger was not a disappointment. The book addresses these difficult and often confusing issues for young girls with candor and honesty. I really like the way Shellenberger uses Scripture again and again to reinforce "God's" part of the conversation.
There are some really deep issues here. Know this when sharing this book with a younger girl, and be prepared to discuss these things. Sex, pornography, cutting- these are important things for us to discuss with our girls, but we do need to make sure they are age appropriate. I'm looking forward to sharing this one with my daughter and discussing these things with her.
I received a free copy of the book from BookSneeze for review purposes. The opinions expressed are my own.
