The Outlander- Diana Gabaldon

Outlander

The. Best. Book. Ever.

I am sure I have said it before, and I will probably say it again, but this one was the best book ever.  I'm not sure how I've gone this long without finding these books, but I am so glad I got this first one as a free Kindle read!

Some of my very favorite types of books: fantasy, romance, historical fiction, books about Scotland:  The Outlander has it all.

Claire Randall in 1945 is on a vacation with her husband in Scotland when she touches a standing stone and is whisked back in time.  In her adventures in Scotland in the late 1700s, she discovers a new life and a new love while become hopelessly embroiled in the politics of Scotland and England in the 18th century.

The Outlander is full of Scottish history, adventure and fantasy, and a very sweet love story that I couldn't put down.  As I was reading, I had no idea that the book was only the first in a series.  A few heart stopping events would have been slightly less dramatic if I had known there would be further books to read.  As soon as I finished the book and realized that of course Gabaldon couldn't leave us hanging like that, I immediately went to the Kindle store and found that there are currently seven books in the series with the eighth and last scheduled to come out this year or next.

Knowing I have at least six more to read helps to ease my P.A.B.D. which certainly came on after the conclusion of The Outlander.  (If you don't know what P.A.B.D. is, you have to read this post at Weekly Geeks.  I've suffered from it a few times, but this is my worst case in quite a while- at least since Twilight.)

Disclaimer: The Outlander has some "adult content" to put it nicely.  Read with discretion.
