The Realms Thereunder- Ross Lawhead

As I may have mentioned before (many times), fantasy is one of my favorite genres.  I was very excited to review The Realms Thereunder by Ross Lawhead.

Daniel Tully and Freya Reynolds were missing as children from a school field trip.  When they were later found, their missing days remained somewhat of a mystery to those who knew them.  Now, eight years later, Daniel and Freya find themselves confronting the events that happened during their time away and facing old foes while meeting old friends.

Full of adventure, fantasy, and otherwordly events, The Realms Thereunder did not disappoint.  Passing back and forth from current happenings to Daniel and Freya's adventures eight years earlier was a little confusing in style but not too disruptive to the flow of the story.  There were some times I thought the story lagged or had quite a few confusing elements.  But, overall, it was a very good read and held my interest.

A caution to readers:  This is the first of a series.  The ending is quite unresolved and will obviously lead to another book, but from what I can tell, the next installment will not be out until next year.  I don't prefer to read books with so much lag time because I forget what has happened between each one.  I'll be looking anxiously for the next book to find out what happens to Daniel and Freya!

I received a free copy of this book from BookSneeze for review purposes.  All opinions expressed are always entirely my own.
