The Harvest of Grace- Cindy Woodsmall
The Harvest of Grace is the third installment in the Ada's House series by Cindy Woodsmall. In this third (and final?) book, familiar characters are brought in and we learn more of their continuing lives and relationships. And Sylvia Fisher joins the story. When Sylvia is betrayed by her beau and her sister, she finds herself struggling to stay in her family home. Caught in a disturbing situation with her former beau, she decides to leave and head to the (now familiar to readers of the series) community of Dry Lake. She signs on to help the Blank family restore their debt-ridden farm, but when the son of the family returns from rehab, she finds that he doesn't appreciate her help and wishes his family to sell the farm. Familiar characters Cara, Deborah, Jonathan, Ada, Israel, Lena, Gray, and Ephriam continue to work out growing feelings for each other as Sylvia and Aaron Blank struggle to establish a relationship.
I'm not always a big fan of Amish fiction, but I have enjoyed the two Ada's House novels (I missed the first one.). The characters are interesting, and I've enjoyed the way the stories of all have been woven throughout all the books. You can easily pick up a book without having read the others and catch up to what is going on and enjoy the story, but it is even more enjoyable to have read about the characters before and to see what is happening to each of them now. The plot is a little predictable- one complaint I've had with Amish fiction in general. But, these novels do make for an enjoyable, easy read. I would easily give it four out of five stars.
I received a free copy of this book from Waterbrook Press for review purposes. All opinions are entirely my own.
