A Bed of Spices by Barbara Samuel
I stumbled upon Barbara Samuel last year reviewing one of her books. for NetGalley. I really enjoyed her stories and her style, and I read a few of her books through the year. So I was very excited to receive one of her historical novels- A Bed of Spices- for free also.
In the 1300s, a plague is sweeping through the countryside. In the midst of the chaos and panic surrounding the time, the Jews are blamed for the plague and the accompanying deaths. When Rica, the daughter of the local nobleman, meets Solomon, a Jew who is studying medicine with the midwife, they fall in love. But the risk of their relationship may be too great.
The story was great. The romance was sweet. The historical information was very interesting (I had no idea that Jews were persecuted that long ago!). It was a great novel, another one of my favorite from Barbara Samuel.
I rate this one 4 stars and an R rating for some mild description of intimacy.
