Claiming Mariah by Pam Hillman

Claiming Mariah by Pam Hillman had been sitting on my Kindle awaiting review for so long I had almost forgotten it! I have an (almost) foolproof system for registering and checking my books and products awaiting review, but somehow this one had slipped by. After reading it, I am really glad that I found it!

Slade Donvan is seeking revenge. His father was shot and cheated out of his land by a partner after the discovery of a piece of land holding gold. For years afterward, his father suffered from the pain, drowning himself in drink and abusing his family. Slade's father is dead when Slade receives a letter from the partner's daughter seeking forgiveness for her father's part in the wrong. But when Slade seeks revenge, he finds the partner is dead, and his daughter Mariah is now running the ranch and living on the stolen land. Slade and Mariah are very obviously at odds with each other, but, of course, things don't stay that way as this Christian fiction/historical romance progresses.

Claiming Mariah had all of my favorite elements of a good story- a strong but gentle hero, a strong-willed heroine, a historical setting.  The story line was very good. It was a very sweet love story without falling into being corny. There was some action and suspense that wasn't often predictable. And the characters were interesting and believable. It was an interesting, inspiring, and simple to read story. I will be looking for others by this author.

I give this one a 4.5 stars and a G for content.

I received a free copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
