Unholy Hunger by Heather James
I've stumbled onto yet another really good book from an author previously unknown to me. Unholy Hunger by Heather James is a Christian fiction/thriller. The subject matter is dark, but the story is riveting.
Evelyn Barrett is a successful lawyer with a handsome husband and sweet daughter. But her world is rocked when her daughter is abducted and killed. Evelyn sets out on a mission to find her daughter's killer and exact vengeance. On the way she discovers a very unusual "gift." Evelyn has to find her way out of darkness, bitterness, and vengeance to save her marriage and to save her life.
This was a very dark book. It deals with the subjects of child predators, pedophiles, and the death of a child. There were times, as a mom, that I had a hard time reading this book.
But, the book was very well-written. Told from Evelyn's point of view, the the story was full of action and suspense and kept me on the edge of my seat. Evelyn is a compelling character- despite the bitterness and harshness that her daughter's death brings out. She constantly changes throughout the book as she deals with the abuse and death of her daughter and learns to trust God again.
It seems as if there are going to be other books forthcoming in the series. This one is called Book 1 in the Lure of the Serpent series. I will certainly be on the lookout for others by this author!
I give this one a 5 star rating. I give it an R for content. The subject matter is dark and occasionally quite disturbing. There is reference to intimacy between Evelyn and her husband.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
