Take a Chance on Me by Susan May Warren

I am super excited to be on team of reviewers who have the opportunity to have a first look at some of Susan May Warren's newest books! I have been a long time reader of Susan's books. I admit that I am drawn to her because she is a writer who is a mom. One day I may actually put into words all of the novel ideas I've had floating around in my head forever. And it sure is encouraging to read such excellent Christian fiction from another mom!

I had the privilege of receiving and reading Take a Chance on Me, Susan's newest book. A week or so ago, I published this trailer talking about her new series:

And I have finally gotten to read my copy of the book!

This is the first of a new series featuring the Christiansen family.  The Christiansen's are a family with adult children who have a family business- a lodge/resort near the small town of Deep Haven (featured in other of Susan's novels).

In this story, Darek Christiansen is living a life shadowed by bitterness over the tragic death of his wife. His former friend, involved in her death, is serving a sentence of community service in the same small town. Both men are unwilling to let go of the past, but they are each given the opportunity through the women God brings to their lives.

I loved it. It was one of those real dilemma books- I can't wait to finish it, but at the same time, I can't stand the thought of being through. Thankfully it is only the first in a series.

I loved the characters- Darek and his rough exterior, Ivy with a past full of hurt, Jensen living with regret, and Claire holding on to the safety of her small town. There was just enough character development to make them real but not so much emotion that it felt overly dramatic.

The story was also developed well. It wasn't predictable, but it also wasn't unrealistic. There were a few times that I wished things had been easier for the main characters, but the obstacles they faced really made the story.

I wasn't sure I was going to like the two stories going on at the same time. But it really worked in the scheme of the book, and I found myself drawn to both couples.

I'm very excited about the new series. I finished this one reluctantly. And I look forward to the next book about the family.

I give this one a 5 star rating and a PG for content.

Disclaimer:I received a free copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
