This was a gentle love story that happened in a harsh time and place between characters of opposing sides. A main theme of God's love and care through hardship runs throughout the story in the lives of both characters.
S. Dionne Moore was a new author for me, but I really enjoyed this one. Her main characters were easy to get to know and like. The setting, though harsh, seemed historically accurate and a good backdrop for their story. There was action- through the war and fighting taking place- and inward revelations- as Beth and Joe (our main characters) each come to grips with their personal trust in God and their relationship with each other.
I will definitely look for more by this author! I give it 5 stars and a PG-13 for content because of the violent descriptions of war.

Born and raised in Manassas, Virginia, Moore moved to Greencastle, PA in 1993, then to Mercersburg in 2009. Moore enjoys life in the historically rich Cumberland Valley where traffic jams are a thing of the past and there are only two stoplights in the whole town.
