Sky Jumpers:Book 1 by Peggy Eddleman
Sky Jumpers is the first in a new series for tweens/young adults by Peggy Eddleman. I like to check out young adult books for the young readers in my house.
Sky Jumpers is a futuristic novel set after a future third World War. The earth has been damaged by the "green bombs" and has reverted to a style of living from before the time of modern technology. Because most of the inventions of the world were destroyed, inventors of all ages are valued by society. But Hope isn't a very good inventor. So it often seems as if she doesn't contribute much.
Even though this was a young adult book, I really enjoyed it. The characters were interesting. Hope made a very good heroine. The story was told from her perspective in the first person, so we got to know her well. The story was interesting with suspense to make me want to keep reading and wonder what was going happen when I had to quit. This was unlike other young adult books. It didn't have a heavy focus on romance or on groups of kids who try to be popular and "cool". Instead it emphasized positive values- like being an individual, using your strengths, being a good friend- and the importance of family.
I liked this one. I give it 4 stars and a G for content.
