Threads of Change: a Quilting Story Pt.1 by Jodi Barrows

Threads of Change is the first book in a series. The Mailly women- two sisters and their cousins are from the deep South in the 1850s. Aware of the turmoil in the country, their grandfather sends them to Texas to start a new life away from the threat of war. This is the beginning of their story. Liz is a widow with a twelve year old son. She and her sister Megan, along with their two younger cousins, head west. Their guide is Thomas- the best friend of Liz's late husband. They face trials and danger as they head west to begin a new life. And there is a spark of romance between Liz and Thomas, but Liz is reluctant to let go of the memory of her beloved husband.

There is some romance here- although that's not the main theme of the book. The historical context was interesting to me. The book didn't particularly hold my interest. I felt like the characters weren't well-developed. I didn't feel like I really knew them that well. I also felt like there wasn't really a "main story." There were quite a few stories going on, and there wasn't really a focus on one.

It is an easy read with a sweet romance and an interesting historical context, but it wasn't one of my favorite. I give it 3 stars and a G rating.
