Beloved by Robin Lee Hatcher

Beloved is historical fiction set in the 1900s. Diana is about to announce her engagement when her husband turns up very unexpectedly. Her husband, Tyson Applegate is the son of a very wealthy mining mogul. He left her and his family years before to travel the world, eventually ending up fighting in Cuba with the Rough Riders. He's been presumed dead, a result of a battle. But on the eve of Diana's engagement, he returns. He's a changed man, but it may take time for him to prove it to Diana.

I liked the time period of the historical setting in this book. I enjoyed the characters of Diana and Tyson. The story was interesting and kept me reading. I liked the different approach to a romance- married couple, estranged, now reconciling with each other.

There wasn't anything particularly fascinating or deep here. And there were some things that happened that I just felt were choppy- especially toward the end of the story. It seemed as if some elements were going to be developed more, but the development ended abruptly.

I read this book mostly in one day as I spent lots of time riding in the car. It was perfect for a long day's reading. It was a simple, easy read and was enjoyable but not very deep.

I give this one 4 stars and a PG for content.
