I'm a self-proclaimed history buff. And I happen to be studying history from the Roman Empire through the Reformation with my homeschooled children this year. So I was very interested to read through Church History, Volume One: From Christ to Pre-Reformation by Everett Ferguson.
This is a massive tome that is only the first volume in a set of church history. It's pretty complete and detailed as a textbook for a lover of history. There is quite a bit here that I've been learning with my children as we've headed out of the Roman empire and into the spread of the church through the Middle Ages.
This is definitely written for adults or at least high school students. The reading level and complexity of information is pretty high. But there is quite a bit here that I can read through and then share with my younger students as it pertains to our study.
I'd recommend this one for history lovers. It's a good overview of the birth and growth of the Christian church.
