When I signed up to review the Candle Bible Handbook, I expected a nice little children's Bible study resource. But when I received the book, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that it is so much more.

The book's description from Kregel Publication's website:

Description:
Travel through Bible history with this comprehensible exploration of the Bible, following the key narratives from Genesis to Revelation. Perfect as a child’s first Bible reference, he will travel through Bible lands and times and discover how the people lived: the foods they ate, the homes they occupied, the clothes they wore, and the work they performed. There are sections of study questions throughout to further learning, as well as glossaries and FAQs to help understanding.

This book takes every book in the Bible and gives an overview, an outline, study questions, and other information for that book. There are real pictures of Biblical places and things. There are drawings and illustrations of important places and things like the Tabernacle of Moses' time and the Temple built by King Solomon. There are timelines for the Old Testament and New Testament. There are charts for things like Jesus' miracles and parables. There are maps of places mentioned in the Bible.

I was very impressed by the quality of this book. The information is very complete and very helpful. The drawings and photographs are very well done bringing Biblical places and things to life. The charts and maps and timelines help Bible readers tie information together to make it easier to understand. The book isn't just for kids Bible study. It is complete and well-done and can be used by older kids and adults alike to enhance Bible study.

The book treats the Bible as literal and completely accurate- an important doctrinal stance for me. The study questions help develop understanding and are Scripturally based. The extra information given- although not always directly from the Bible- is always true to Scripture. I felt like this study guide was very doctrinally sound.

I'm looking forward to using this myself and with my kids as we study various books of the Bible. It is a paperback book and is available at the Kregel website for $17.99.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions expressed are entirely my own. And I was not compensated for this review in any other way.
